BOISE, Idaho – The Serbian National Team defeated Team USA, 5-2, in a dual meet on Sunday at Bishop Kelly High School, which was broadcast on FloWrestling.
Winning bouts for Team USA were Ryan Mango (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP) at 60 kg and John Stefanowicz (Camp LeJeune, N.C./U.S. Marine Corps) at 81 kg.
The teams were introduced on the mat before the raucous crowd and the American wrestlers exchanged token of sportsmanship prior to their pending dual. As the lights went down in the gym, the spotlight shined on the first two wrestlers. Team USA shot out of the gates with a stellar performance by Mango, who finished his opponent, Tamas Nad by tech fall.
“It’s always great to get foreign opponents. It was a great training camp and it was good to get some motivation from guys you don’t see every day,” said Mango.
Stefanowicz gutted out a tough 2-2 decision over Zarko Dickov. Stefanowicz won on criteria, due to his opponent giving up the last point due to a passivity.
“I thought the performance was pretty good, but we have some things that we can work on. My parterre has been improving. He was tall, so there were some challenges for me,” said Stefanowicz.
